About Jim Gurr

Jim Gurr has been engaged in public service for most of his adult life as a public school teacher, township board member, township appointee, several campaigns, and currently as the Chair of the Antrim County Planning Commission.  His involvement in Northern Michigan spans Five decades.  In fact somewhere in the mix, he might have even had the current incumbent of the 37th District as a student.

In fact, any misgivings Jim Gurr has, might be that he had not had enough time to teach that particular person sufficient common sense to do the job correctly.

Jim Attended Community college early, and then obtained a Bachelors in Science in History from Eastern Michigan University.  He then earned his teaching credentials, and later a Masters at Central Michigan University.  He did post graduate work in Public administration, and is a Graduate Fellow (a high honor) in history from CMU.

Jim Gurr a lifelong Republican, has lived in the region his entire 72 years.  He is passionate about life, the constitution, and the environment so many of us take for granted.  As did so many in education, he found ancillary work and self satisfaction by farming and utilizing the land as our maker intended.

He values property rights, a civil society, limited government, and a balance of planning that protects our environment while maintaining the exercise of our constitutionally protected natural rights.
